Welcome to the December 2000 edition of the newsletter. Hopefully
most people reading this newsletter will not know what it is like to
spend "the festive season” behind bars. But as someone who has
experienced it I can tell you it’s not fun. I can also say that whatever
your faith, it really does give you a buzz to get a load of cards behind
bars. In the words of former Mayday Prisoner Ashley Warder "The
best part of the day is when the mail arrives." So, even if you don't
normally write to the prisoners, please send a card to the Earth &
Animal Liberation prisoners. No matter how long they are serving,
they all deserve our support.

Court Reports & Legal Updates

JOSH HARPER ARRESTED On 9/27/00 American eco/animal
liberation-activist Josh Harper was arrested for Criminal Contempt
after he failed to attend a grand jury which s investigating the
activities of both the ELF & ALF. Josh has always stated that he will
never testify against his fellow activists even if it will cost him his
freedom. For his defiance the prosecution are talking about seeking a
jail term of around two years. Please send donations to ‘Josh Harper

court date and trial is set for December 1* in Portland, OR.

MOWING THE LAWN Animal Liberation prisonerJustin Samuel has
entered into a plea bargain. In return for grassing up his co-defendant,
Peter Young, and for pleading Guilty to some misdemeanours, Samuel
was sentenced to 2 years in prison, ordered to pay $364,106 restitution,
and given 1 year of supervision. Meanwhile another former ALF
activist, Ron Blaich, from Long Island, New York, has grassed up his
co-defendant Andy Stepanian. As a result of Blaich's grassing, on
20/11/00 Andy was sentenced to six months imprisonment (to start in
January 2001

GREENPEACE 28 NOT GUILTY! On 20/09/00 28 Greenpeace
activists were found to have a lawful Excuse to destroy six acres of
GM maize in Norfolk, England. The 28 had all been charged with
causing Criminal Damage. However the Jury rejected the charge after
the activists explained that they had to destroy the crop to prevent
harmful GM pollution entering the environment

JOSE BOVE SENTENCED On 13/09/00 French eco-activist Jose
Bove was sentenced to three months imprisonment for leading an
attack against a McDonalds construction site that caused £70,000
damage.

ELAHO VALLEY TRIAL On 15/09/00 eight Canadian eco-activists
were found guilty of blocking logging roads in the Elaho Vialley,
Canada. The police accused the activists of either Civil or Criminal
‘Contempt and some of the eight found themselves locked up

then setting the money whilst reading out a statement denouncing

sentences for the infamous 'Unabomber’ bombing campaign

blocking a road whilst trying to stop logging in the Elaho Valley.

exposed a government plot to assassinate Leonard Peltier. His reward
was life in prison

Lenny disarmed his attacked by stabbing him with a penknife.

MOVE

MOVE is an eco-revolutionary group. There are currently eight
MOVE activists in prison cach serving 100 years after been framed for
the murder of a cop in 1979. 9th defendant, Merle Africa, died in
prison in 1998
